EOTC Key Post: Instgram

In today’s world, technology has taken over all forms of communication and created a new way for people to interact with one another. One of the largest growing social media platforms, in which has allowed for people from all around the world to connect with each other, is Instagram. Instagram was developed by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger, first launched on October 6th, 2010. Before Instagram, Facebook, another popular social media platform was one of the most popular at the time, but people constantly wanted the “next big thing,” and Instagram was the answer. On April 9th, 2012, Facebook, Inc. bought Instagram for a total of one million dollars and has sense gained over 600 million users and counting. In my generation, people prefer the option to communicate online or digitally with one another, rather than the typical face-to-face communication. Instagram provides opportunities to make this interaction more personable and convenient for users by allowing them to share photos, videos and add captions to provide meaningful content. Instagram allows for an individual to show off their creativity behind each and every post, personal messages via Instagram stories, or even the option to send direct messages to stay in touch with friends or family members from around the globe. The Instagram app also is constantly improving different features to attract a variety of users by adding improvements, filters, stickers and more to allow for an individual to craft their personalized social media platform. Aside from users using this app to share their own personal content, they can also use Instagram as a way to network with potential employers and seek out jobs opportunities. Perhaps older generations find using this tool of Instagram to connect to jobs as a foreign concept, but for the year of 2020 it is one of the most popular options for networking and staying in touch with those around the world. Instagram has provided multiple business a platform to market, promote and sell their products or merchandise, but also provides a way to stay connected to the modern day consumer by interacting with them via the app. The year of 2020, due to the Covid-19 outbreak, has proven the use of Instagram to be most beneficial like never before because of the convenience of online shopping and interactions. Personally, while being under quarantine due to the Covid-19 outbreak, I have found myself scrolling through Instagram to feel connected to those around me, finding inspiration for activities to do during this time, workouts, and recipes, even online shopping. It is clear to me that are world is becoming more digital by the day, changing and evolving to communication via online rather than in person. In my opinion, I found the Instagram app to be a more personalized way of digital communication and highly versatile as far as how an individual can use this popular social media platform.
